About Me

About Me

IMG_1451_edited_edited.jpg

I am an experienced and fully qualified homeopath, practicing within easy reach of York, Selby, Pocklington and Market Weighton. I provide homeopathic consultations, together with health advice and counselling. I work from home, a small farm near York, offering daytime and evening appointments by arrangement.

My background was in biological research, with further training and qualification in counselling. I subsequently became interested in homeopathy as an alternative to what I perceived as unsatisfactory conventional medical treatment for various family health issues.

When my first child was born, I took her to see a homeopath as an alternative to the antibiotics repeatedly offered to her for frequent ear infections.  The homeopathic help she received resolved the problems with her ears and we, as a family continued to use homeopathy.  My later decision to study to become a homeopath was as a result of being drawn to the gentle, holistic and non-invasive approach of homeopathy and it made sense to me to be working with the body, listening to its signs and symptoms and treating the whole person and the underlying causes of disease rather than suppressing symptoms.

I studied for four years to gain my Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine, graduating from the Yorkshire School of Homeopathy in 2007.  Within this period of training I received extensive educational and clinical training in homeopathy and allied sciences.  I subsequently completed post graduate training with Madeline Evans.  I am committed to continuing professional development, attending courses, seminars and study groups.  I also attend regular individual and peer supervision sessions.

I am a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths, and have professional insurance through them.  The Society acts as a regulatory body for qualified homeopaths and it’s members are professionally trained to high standards and adhere to a specific code of ethics and practice.  My practice encompasses people of all ages with a wide variety of conditions – because homeopathy is such a safe form of medicine it is very suitable for babies and the elderly.  I am a professional homeopath and not a medical doctor, and therefore those who work with me should retain the services of a primary care physician for appropriate evaluations and check-ups for themselves and/or their children.

Why Homeopathy

About Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an ancient form of medicine that is safe, effective and well researched. It works by stimulating your own body to heal itself.  It respects the body’s ability to produce symptoms that are expressions of imbalance in the healthy person, and every person will express these symptoms slightly differently.

For this reason, Homeopaths look at patients as individuals, where the physical, mental and emotional symptoms are all relevant. We work to help the whole person, rather than focus on a particular system in the body, or a named disease.

In contrast to conventional medicines, which rely on chemicals (drugs) to stimulate, inhibit, or mimic a particular function in the body, homeopathy is a form of energy medicine. Many drugs used in conventional medicine may produce unpleasant and potentially harmful side effects. This is not the case when using remedies. Homeopathy is becoming increasingly recognised as a viable form of healthcare.  It is non-toxic, non-addictive and can be used on its own or with conventional medicines.

Homeopathic treatments ‘appear to offer the potential for substantial cost savings, particularly in drugs bills for primary care. The evidence also indicates fewer adverse effects than conventional medicines and a reduced need for follow-up appointments’: The Role of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the NHS. Christopher Smallwood, 2005

Testimonials

“Emma has been extremely helpful with my four sons. She takes the time to listen to me as I explain each individual child’s issues and is very good at finding out extra bits of information about them that will help find the appropriate remedy. Emma has helped one of my sons to control his anger, and has constantly changed the remedy to adapt to his stage in life. She has also helped another of my sons with bowel problems which has made him a much happier confident person. I cannot recommend Emma highly enough, she is always patient and understanding and makes every effort to find the right remedy for each situation.”
